November 26, 2013

China Mobile, China's largest telecom operator boasting over 700 million subscribers, is reportedly to roll out the country's first 4G TD-LTE (Time-Division Long-Term Evolution) services under the 'He' banner on December 18, according to Shanghai Daily on November 25. Subscribers in Beijing, Guangzhou and Chongqing will be the first to enjoy commercial 4G services, while those in Shanghai have to wait as the citywide 4G network is still under construction. The operator expects a rapid popularity of 4G smartphones in China, saying that some 4G-enabled phones priced below $1,000 RMB (US$164;US$1=$6.0924 RMB) will be available in the second half of 2014.
